Fugawi Global Navigator is a navigational system for creating digital maps from any scanned map or map database. The program is more challenging to use than most, and doesn't offer an extensive feature set. Fugawi Global Navigator comes as a CD with DVD bonus material.
Ease of Use:
Fugawi Global Navigator is difficult to use. At a glance, it's hard to differentiate between the icons on the toolbar, we found it difficult to figure out how to erase routes, and the zooming feature is slow.
Feature Set:
Fugawi Global Navigator includes city and topography maps. Maps can be imported, and the program has a built-in odometer. Although the maps show good detail, the program graphics and the mapped routes are not detailed enough to see clearly. Fugawi Global Navigator has a 3-D mode with a fun feature in which you can adjust the date, time, and lighting conditions to see how the shadows would fall. The program also optimizes the number of track points (based on user-specified tolerance).
The software is compatible with a GPS unit, palm or pocket PC. With a laptop connection to your GPS unit, you can use the real-time tracking feature.
Points of Interest:
Fugawi Global Navigator includes schools, churches, civic buildings, housing facilities, natural resources, and topographical related POI. Unlike many mapping programs, Fugawi Global Navigator does not offer much entertainment or restaurant information. This software can add POI, but only as points, not selected icons.
Map Customization:
With Global Navigator, you can attach sound and pictures to waypoints that play automatically as you approach, so without looking at the screen you can tell if you are getting close to a waypoint. You have the option to download elevation data for the United States and can merge this with maps to create a 3-D image. Fugawi Global Navigator can upload maps, and you can turn any map into a digital image.
Safety Features:
Fugawi Global Navigator only provides a status box and lets you know the sunrise and sunset times; there are no other features related to safety.
Ease of Setup:
We didn't have any problems installing Fugawi Global Navigator.
Help / Support:
The Fugawi staff was quick to respond to our emails and seemed committed to helping customers. The program comes with a startup guide and has a "What's this?" tool.
Summary:
We weren't impressed with Fugawi Global Navigator, as a city guide, or a topography guide, when compared to other mapping software programs. The only unique feature that this program offers, that many other do not, is the ability to upload scanned maps. They also have exceptional customer service.
