Fugawi Map of America is a continental USA atlas DVD that includes software for GPS and PDA. This program focuses on the topography of the US but also includes a street overlay map.
Ease of Use:
While using Map of America we spent a lot of time looking for the tools we needed because the program was not organized intuitively. The icons on the tool bar where not easy to identity.
Feature Set:
Fugawi Map of America functions as an atlas that offers detailed land and water body information, but the graphics are simple. Map of America is not useful as a travel tool, would be useful for geography study. The software is compatible with a GPS unit, palm, or pocket PC. With a laptop connection to your GPS unit, you can use the real-time tracking feature.
Points of Interest:
The POI included with Fugawi Map of America includes schools, churches, civic buildings, housing facilities, natural resources and topographical related locations. But the software doesn't offer information on entertainment or food. Also, the POI are hard to see because they are not represented by icons unless you opt to attach them manually.
Map Customization:
With Map of America, you can attach photos or illustrations, plot multiple routes, create elevation profiles, and the program has a 3-D mode. The freehand drawing tool is the easiest to control of all the software programs we reviewed. Because this program offers so many customization options, mastering them could take a long time.
Safety Features:
Fugawi Map of America includes a compass and offers sunrise/sunset times.
Ease of Setup:
We didn't have any problems.
Help / Support:
The Fugawi technical support staff responded to our email promptly, and their answers where helpful and courteous. Fugawi Map of America includes a Getting Started Guide and has a "What's this?" tool as well.
Summary:
Fugawi Map of America serves as an atlas with exceptional drawing and customization tools, but the tools are challenging to use.
